Making chilled water

by Sue Fletcher

I live in Portugal where the summer temperatures reach 110F in the shade so chilled water is vital. Take a 5 litre bottle of water almost full and freeze overnight. Don't fill right to the top otherwise it will expand too much when freezing. The next day thaw until there's sufficient water to pour off 1 glass. Replace this water with water at ambient temperature and put the bottle in the fridge. Everytime you want a glass of water, pour out a glass then replace it. This method will produce at least 15 litres of chilled water and will last a week, maybe longer, in the refrigerator. It also helps keep the fridge cooler and therefore more efficient.
