Frugal Tomatoes

Frugal tomatoes - I use branches from tree to hold up my tomatoes. There were a lot of fallen tree branches in my neighbourhood, so I decided to use them. They work great!

Good suggestion, those canes that you buy from the gardening shops can be quite expensive for what they are. I would think that the tree branches would look nicer as well. More natural and rustic.

Both I and my partner love tomatoes, however they are so expensive to buy, so we don’t that often. So this year I have decided to try and grow a variety of different tomatoes from seed.

I bought a pack of four different kinds of tomato seed and seeded them inside a small plastic tray with a cover. Within weeks they had grown too big for the incubator and all I had done was water them.

I then planted them out into separate tubs and bought some canes for them to grow up. My neighbour taught me to pick out the small leaves which sprout out from between the branches to make sure that the tomato plants grow tall as this will mean more tomatoes.

Now they are above the height of the canes and I am really looking forward to the crops. There should be small red tomatoes; small yellow tomatoes and big beef steak tomatoes. I will have saved so much money this year and all for the cost of a few packets of seeds.

Growing your own tomatoes really is so fulfilling, The joy I get looking to see how much they have grown over night and watching them get bigger and stronger every day. I can’t wait until I see some tomatoes and I know they are going to taste great too.

Frugal tomatoes will be something I do every year from now on.
