Dishwasher leak - Sometimes the dishwasher will leak because of a blockage caused by too much detergent being used. The detergent becomes thick and starts to clog up the outlet pipes. It can become really messy to clean by hand.
So to thoroughly clean the dishwasher pipes add a cup full of vinegar to the machine, this will help to break up and neutralise the foam build up and break it up.

Hi thank you for this tip, it can be very expensive to fix if the build up of detergent stops the machine from working completely. A tip like this can save a lot of time, trouble and money and so is god send.
I wonder if it would work in the washing machine too. Soap powder builds up all the time and can cause floods and machine break down. You would have to give the machine a extra spin rinse afterwards otherwise your clothes may come out smelling of vinegar afterwards.
Another tip I have is to do a regular fluff removal from the washing machine plug which is usually at the base of the machine. this is not a very pleasant job as it usually requires reaching in and teasing out yukky gungy fluff which has been caught over time from the clothes in the machine. If you don’t remove it, it will build up and eventually cause the machine to clog further back in the pipes.
I have a major water leak from my machine in the past because I hadn’t realised that there was a place I had to remove the fluff from. I do now and make sure I clean it at least once a month.
