Creating your own iceice water

by Lisa (Seymour, Tennessee)

creating your own iceice water. For those working outside in the heat of the summer (especially for extending hours for construction workers) a nice cool drink of water is always nice.

Without a second income and raising two children, I remembered what my mom used to do for my dad who also worked long hours outside. She would rinse out our empty gallons of milk, fill them with water and then freeze them overnight.

During the heat of the day the water thaws out and it is a cool drink. You can do two-litre bottles like this also. It was expensive to by a bag of ice everyday also and you can crush the ice with a hammer and then split the plastic open with a sharp knife and you have crushed ice.

My husband has told me several times that the men would ask him for a drink of his water throughout the day. He always would let them get a drink as long as they did not touch the spout with their mouth. Hope this helps someone else. One more thing. You also can put the frozen two litres in the bottom of a cooler also.

Excellent suggestion, I'm sure it will be really useful to builder and farmers etc. great frugal tip.

My partner now has to travel on the London Tube to go to work every day. As you may know these trains get very full indeed and you are squeezed in. During the summer months it can get very hot indeed and as the journeys last over an hour a cool drink is a  really a life saver.

I think idea I will be really useful for him. I will give him a small plastic bottle of water and freeze it over night. By the time he has been on the train for 15 minutes the water will already be half liquid and ready to drink.
