15 More Ways to Save Money at the Grocery Store Using Coupons
by Kristina Wyatt
Coupons have long been a Sunday staple in families' grocery budgets. Combining coupons with grocery store sales can save on your overall grocery budget per month. Below are some tried and true tips to save more money at the grocery store.
1. Check out your local grocery store's website for online deals and coupons.
2. Go to the manufacturer's sites of products you buy repeatedly. For instance, if you regularly purchase Folger's coffee, visit their website for coupons or free samples. Also, sign up to their site to receive more deals and coupons in your e-mail.
3. Try to use your coupons with in-store sales for maximum savings. I have gotten Ragu spaghetti sauce for just fifty-cents after using a $1 off coupon when my local Kroger had them on sale for $1.50 each jar.
4. Take advantage of rebates and cash back deals at stores like CVS or Walgreens. Go to CVS.com or Walgreens.com to see how these deals work and to sign-up.
5. Go paperless. Kroger stores allow you to load your coupons onto your member savings card so you don't have to take along paper coupons. Visit your store's website to see if they have this feature.
6. Ask your local dollar or discount store if they accept coupons. You can rake in a ton of savings using coupons on items that are already just a dollar, or deeply discounted.
7. Shop at stores that double coupons. Some have certain days of the week that they offer double coupons. Check with your grocery store's policy to find out whether yours offers this.
8. Combine coupons with "buy one, get one free" deals. Doing this can get you some great deals on items you use regularly.
9. Buy multiple copies of your local Sunday newspaper for the coupon inserts. Most papers are between 75cents to $1.50, so for a small investment weekly, you can save more money since you have multiple coupons to use.
10. Trade coupons with your friends and/or family members to get the coupons you need that week. Or, join a coupon swap online. A few to try are www.thriftyfun.com and www.familycorner.com.
11. If the store-brand is cheaper, don't buy the pricier brand just because you have a coupon for it.
12. Keep an eye out for in-store coupons. They can be found up and down the aisles, usually they have lights or other gimmicks to get you to stop and take one.
13. Shop at several different grocery stores to up your savings. Use coupons with each store's sales to get more bang for your buck.
14. Enlist the aide of a grocery price book to keep up with grocery prices on items you use frequently. Try this article on how to start your own grocery price book: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2430730/saving_money_using_a_grocery_price.html?cat=46.
